Only in the Philippines (part 1)

For a time I was trying to pinpoint what it is that I perceive wrong in our judicial system.   Why up to now the Maguindanao massacre main suspects are still on the loose after four years? Why the Vizconde massacre is still an unresolved puzzle and why Hubert Webb was sent into prison if he is guilt-free? These are just the two most prominent cases that were left unresolved.  Definitely there are still more cases that are silent in the sala of judges, that were not given attention, that had not reached the transmitter of media.

We Filipinos give more value on our so-called democratic space.  As we value it, we all the more keep on checking how justice is mete out.  And in our firm compliance with the processes acceptable in our so-called democratic space, we tend to forget the real issue, the substance of the case.  One wrong move, one inaccurate budge and the case with probable cause will be left floating.

We also love to debate a lot. Even for one simple term, for one word we debate unendingly.    The issue of the DAP and the PDAF stir unending discussions that the common Filipino is left out in need.   Opposing team for the DAP argues that DAP and PDAF is one – an object to incite corruption.  The government on the other side, defends that DAP is not and that it is for the purpose of giving immediate aid to Filipinos in need.    Rival legislators contend to the legalities of the DAP while the government keep pushing for its legitimacy.

In the end of all this procedural battle, the common Filipinos are given a later than usual help, delayed justice.
