Only in the Philippines (Part 4)
Philippines is still under the wrath of super typhoon
Yolanda. It was said to be the strongest
typhoon that had hit the planet in 2013.
It causes storm surges and so
much destruction. As of this posting,
only a minimal number of casualties were reported –Oh Lord, I pray that this
number will no longer increase, please, please show our country Your Mercy. Keep us in the safety of your embrace
especially those that are in the storm’s path.
I admit that in times of calamity, despite sadness, I can
feel pride swelling in my heart. It is because
of how resilient the Filipino spirit. Amidst the flood, Filipinos would still smile
when the camera rolls. Who could not
forget the lady who was dancing and waving gaily on rooftop? Or the kids that
have ear to ear smiles playing under a strong rain? Or the common Filipinos
that waved while submerged into chest-high flood water? Only in the Philippines that such resilience
can be found and felt.
Yes, we Pinoys
do cry but we easily move on. We
sometimes worry when our pocket is empty and that we have no food to serve our
love ones but we never fail to laugh and sing and dance. We find joy in everything that we have, we
find joy in loving and being with our family.
In times of disaster, we never fail to help others; we never fail to
remember bayanihan.
I am a proud Filipino!
